Farmer's Almanac

Dear Family and Friends,

Attack of the Ants!  That is what we have had to deal with over the last few months.   When we came back from Christmas break they had overrun the whole kitchen.   Jasson finally found poison strong enough to kill them.  We had been free of the pests for a few weeks now.  Maybe this is God’s way of getting us ready for life in the jungle!

STUDYING HARD OR HARDLY STUDYING?

We have just started our second semester at New Tribes Mission Institute in Baker City, Oregon.   We have learned so many things in our classes.  We could not have imagined going to the field without knowing all this information.  We have learned how to develop relationships with the tribal people, how to cross cultural barriers for presenting the Gospel, and how our cultural differences may be a barrier in understanding and communicating the Bible in their culture.   We have just finished scratch cooking week where we are not able to use pre-packaged or pre-made items.  Cooking from scratch will help prepare us for life on the field.

“By God’s strength we take the challenge.

By unflinching determination we hazard our all

give until we have reached the last tribe.”

--Paul Fleming, NTM’s founder, 1945

JUNGLE CAMP

Last semester we spent three days out in the woods building a pole barn style house frame out of tree logs trunks.   We will cover the walls with plastic, and even have electricity and running water.   Quite modern accommodation!   We are looking forward to the last few weeks in May when we will finish our jungle camp experience.

 FUTURE PLANS

We will graduate from Mission Institute June 7th, and then we will be moving to Colorado for the summer.  We will be doing an internship at Grace Bible Church in Parachute for six weeks.   In the middle of August we will be moving again to Camdenton, Missouri in order to go to New Tribes Language Institute.   There we will learn phonetics and the methods of how to learn a language.  This will be our last leg of missionary training, and then we will finally be “official missionaries” with New Tribes Mission!

 Praise & Prayer:

Over Christmas we were able to visit many dear friends and several churches that are very special to us.   Praise the Lord for all the encouragement you gave us.   We are grateful for all of your prayers.   They have been greatly needed and appreciated.  We thank the Lord for you all.
