June 9, 2005 - Prep Work

The day started at 5:00 am with a breakfast of oatmeal and bananas. We set off to a day at the church property. There we picked up trash, dug a sewage line, fixed a fence and dug the holes to build one, and carried bricks for the pastor’s home. We had met the pastor the day before, but today was the first day spent really talking with him. He and his wife, Violet, and their four-year old son are very pleasant people.

After a tiring day at the work site we came home and took showers and rested for a while. Then dinner came. Like the night before, it was brought to us and, of course, it was really good. We sat and talked with Matt and Condi for a while, because they stayed for dinner, and had some interesting conversations about chickens and tigers and tapioca pudding . . . This day, though tiring, was very fun and it made us feel good to help build up that property.
