June 14, 2005 - Sick Day at the Sick Bay

Well, hello everyone! We had an eventful and uneventful day at the same time. Since we had several "sickies" on our team right now we kept them at home and waited for a doctor's appointment. The earliest available . . . "quarter-past five". I, Val, got to do the fun job of dropping the rest of the crew off at the worksite and then returning the sickies. If you're reading between the line that means I'm driving in South Africa -- wrong side of the road and wrong side of the car. But I'm getting used to it. :)

Kate was up and feeling better so we tried our hand at old fashioned laundry washing -- in the sink! It was rather fun and after hanging it out to dry we worked on sweeping and other various things. In the early afternoon, Jeff dropped by to pick Kate and I up to go to the worksite. It was a slower workday so all of us just pitched in doing various odd jobs and helping out wherever possible. The walls are going up though - yippee! At the end of our day there was an attempted surgery on Pastor Vuyo's dog. The dog was cut on it's side so we were going to stitch it up, but I'm not much of a surgeon. The dog did well though and didn't even try to bite Matt who was doing the wonderful job of holding him down. Thus ended our work-day.

Jeff left a bit early from the worksite to pick up the 3 sickies to head to the clinic. The rest of us got home, opened the door, and saw a beautiful table set for us -- candles, flowers, and chocolate to top it all off! The ladies in the church have supplied us dinner and we've been enjoying the wonderful food and great hospitality. The group from the clinic returned with mostly good news (reassurance of what we'd though) and lots of meds for them! God has blessed us so much in all this. Just knowing there is purpose behind everything is refreshing and gives hope. I am looking forward to what God will teach us and use this experience for in our lives. I am so encouraged and blessed as we get to serve and serve alongside these dear people. They have been very gracious to us and we have learned so much from them! Please continue your prayers for us; we desperately need them, especially as we all grow a bit tired and such :)

Thank you so much for your support -- we are most blessed!
