June 18, 2004 - Stuck in East LA

We arose semi-early :-), ate breakfast, packed the house, vans, and trailers, said our good-byes, and headed for the border.  Thankfully, we had an uneventful crossing.  (The guard was in a good mood and let us keep the bananas we had purchased in Mexico.)

Encinitas is a very pretty town along the coast; it has many beautiful flowering shrubs and a nice beach which is mostly used by surfers.  We spent a couple of hours there hunting shells, swimming, and hanging out.  From there we began our journey through LA.  Now, I have driven through Denver multiple times in rush hour traffic, but I have NEVER seen anything like this!!  Our vans were crawling through LA for about 4 hours.  Mark and Jeff did a great job staying cool behind the wheels.  (There were times of being up to the speed limit, but they were few and far between.)

We arrived at Mark and Jera Henry's home around 6 pm.  Mark and Jera are currently in Indiana at an IFCA conference, but all the kids are here.  Missy, Jon, and Ron look great...Ron is at least as tall as me (of course, Ron, that is not saying a whole lot yet!!).  It is most excellent to see them.  They have a pool, which is a source of serious fun, but everyone was in bed by midnight.

We are getting tired, and perhaps a little irritable...keep praying for us as we continue to grow as a team.  We truly desire to finish well.

with love and hugs,  Barb Asplund
