June 16, 2004 - Fluidity (Be Flexible)
Today we went to the jail. They only hold the inmates for 36-48 hours. The conditions are very poor. These are no mattresses; only cement, 6 - 7 men per cell, 3 cement slabs on each side, no pillows, no blankets, no bathroom; very sad. We had an assembly line going on for hot dogs. We prepared around 600 hot dogs and iced tea. Two hot dogs for each person and one glass of iced tea and then we gave them two pieces of candy. After we finished serving them we asked if any of them wanted us to pray for them. Three men asked us to pray for them. To my understanding this is a vicious cycle. They get out for a couple of days then back in they go. It's a prison for misdemeanors, but I ask that we remember these men and women (about 10 women today) in prayer for salvation and safety. It brought tears to my eyes.
